“Het spreekt vanzelf dat de combinatie van Schumann en Hoffmann voor Marco Mantovani sfeerbepalend is geweest voor de interpretatie van deze beide werken. Naast de kwikzilveren luim en de strenge ernst is er veel ruimte voor de dromerige aspecten – zowel omfloerste sluimeringen als dreigende nachtmerries. In technische zin valt op dat Mantovani duidelijk rekening heeft gehouden met de klank van de piano's zoals Schumann die kende, met een pedaalgebruik dat nergens scherp is afgebakend maar altijd ruimte laat voor de naklank. Een interpretatie waarover is nagedacht en die weloverwogen en tegelijk spontaan overkomt. Uiteraard zorgde Mantovani zelf voor een boeiende toelichting.” - Siebe Riedstra
“It goes without saying that the combination of Schumann and Hoffmann has been decisive for the atmosphere of Marco Mantovani's interpretation of these two works. Besides the sparkling whimsicality and the rigorous seriousness, there is plenty of room for the dreamy aspects – both shrouded slumbers and threatening nightmares. In a technical sense, it is striking that Mantovani has clearly taken into account the sound of the pianos as Schumann knew them, with a use of the pedals that is never sharply defined but always leaves room for the reverberation. An interpretation that has been thought through and that comes across as well considered and spontaneous at the same time. Naturally, Mantovani himself provided a fascinating commentary."
